![]() What makes it really infuriating is how incredibly easy this would've been to fix. I can't even begin to understand the failures that result in a company making a game entirely about line infantry with only three different firing patterns (rank, platoon, and standard) and failing to make a company capable of platoon firing better than one only capable of ranked fire. This is basically well known as one of the best examples of CA's complete failure to test almost anything. I'm thinking of removing PF drill via modding. As both elite guards and regular cheap line infantry gain experience the latter will perform as well as the former which doesn't make sense and just seems like a design failure by the developers. I normally like to play a game in a vanilla state and try to minimize usage of mods but this thing irks me a lot due to the illogical 'upgrade' research that makes units much less effective in battles. This point become evens more relevant when fighting against melee units, cavalry and charging enemy infantry as PT can only get of few shots before the contact, often none. ![]() They even overlap with other elite units, causing a friendly fire. In addition FBR has more shock impact on the morale, and PF requires initial setup time since units have to spread out before they fire which allows even the weakest infantry to inflict considerable damage on the 'most elite unit' in the game before they get a single shot fired. After first three volleys from FBR were fired, in my 1vs1 test 7 line infantry soldiers died while 53 superior line infantry soldiers died when both units had the max experience, which is a staggering difference. (45 vs 65) Line infantry will inflict almost the same amount of damage to the Prussian guards, the best elite unit in the game statwise, because platoon fire can't fully maximize the reloading speed of the life guard.Įxperienced line infantry pwns superior line infantry as FBR benefits from increased reloading speed which means as Prussia you are better off using regular infantry than elite infantry in the long run due to the maintenance and availability of the former. Due to the experience bonus, the line infantry has the same accuracy, while the line infantry has 1 lower morale(11 vs 12) and the life guard has 20 higher reloading speed. This becomes evident when you pit 5 chevron Prussian line infantry against Prussian life guard. In the maximum unit size, it results in the first platoon being idle about half the time in 3 ranks formation, longer with 2 ranks formation. It only seems better because only elite units which are inherently better than regular units use PF.Ī platoon that finished reloading waits doing nothing while other platoons are firing until the wave ends and their turn comes. Platoon fire drill is a research available in ETW that replaces fire by ranks but in practice is inferior. Think we missed one? Give us a Modmail and suggest new Subreddits to add to the lists!
